All York Region residents 18 years of age and older who wish to receive a vaccine will be eligible by the week of May 24, 2021
Newmarket – The Regional Municipality of York continues to aggressively move forward with advancing the distribution of vaccines to eligible residents as identified in Phase 2 of the Government of Ontario’s COVID-19 Vaccine Distribution Plan.
Over the next three weeks, York Region will open new vaccination appointments each week with the intent all York Region residents who wish to receive a vaccine will be eligible to book an appointment by the week of May 24, 2021.
“We are starting to see the slowing of new COVID-19 cases in our communities, but we need to remain vigilant,” said Dr. Karim Kurji, York Region’s Medical Officer of Health. “We are at a critical juncture in our fight against COVID-19 and variants of concern. The sooner we can get as many York Region residents vaccinated as possible, the sooner we can look to reopen our businesses and our schools and return to a way of life many of us are missing.”
Based on known available vaccine supply at this time, York Region is planning to move ahead with the following:
Week of May 10
- All previous eligible groups
- Moderate health care workers
- York Region residents 40 years of age and older (born in 1981 or earlier)
- Individuals with at-risk health conditions
- Individuals who cannot work from home within Group 2
Week of May 17
- All previous eligible groups
- York Region residents 30 years of age and older (born 1991 or earlier)
Week of May 24
- All previous eligible groups
- York Region residents 18 years of age and older (born in 2003 or earlier)
These timelines are in alignment with the Province’s COVID-19 Vaccination Plan and are subject to change depending on vaccine availability. Should York Region receive additional vaccine supply, every effort will be made to further advance vaccinations and open eligibility sooner.
Residents are reminded not to book an appointment or attend a clinic before they meet the current eligibility. You will be turned away if you do not meet the current eligibility on the day you attend a clinic.
Information on when online booking opportunities will open for each newly eligible group will be communicated through multiple communication channels, including york.ca, social media and our media and community partners.
Currently, more than 478,000 York Region eligible residents have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. This represents approximately 49% of the Region’s total eligible adult population.
