A proven model for success was unveiled at the Udora Hall on September 18 when more than 100 people signed in to learn more about Probus—a growing members-only club designed to open up social opportunities for seniors and retirees.

The newly founded Brock Georgina Probus chapter was sponsored by the Uxbridge club and will follow the successful Probus club model that has been responsible for exceeding membership goals within months of an inaugural meeting.

The club is a volunteer-based, non-profit, non-political, non-sectarian fellowship organization with over 4,000 clubs worldwide, some 250 being Canadian clubs made up of over 35,000 members.

The Uxbridge Club is now at capacity of 300 members and a second club called the Scugog Uxbridge Club was formed to handle the overflow.

“Clubs are all about encouraging healthy minds and bodies and socializing with other retirees in the community,” said Debra Lippay, the newly elected president of the Brock Georgina Club as she described the various special interests groups completely organized by Probus members.

These groups could include activities around pickleball, book clubs, golf, bus tours and any other interests like-minded members want to organize and join. An interest group usually meets periodically throughout the year on whatever schedule the group decides.

Brock Georgina Probus will meet monthly at the Udora Hall and each meeting will feature a guest speaker and refreshments.

Their next meeting will be on Wednesday, October 16 and the speaker will be Dr. Amy Barron who will engage members in a discussion about how author Agatha Christie used her love and knowledge of the Middle East and her famous archaeologist husband to influence her writing.

Then on November 20, Georgina’s well-known professional actor and master storyteller, Phil Craig will use his combination of story-telling skills, knowledge and passion for history to discuss “D-Day 80 Years On”.  For more information visit brockgeorginaprobus.ca
