The annual Georgina Terry Fox Run took place virtually this year on September 19 and has raised $18,000 so far.
“Despite there being no actual Terry Fox Run at the North Gwillimbury Park as in past years, it was still an inspiring day for countless people. A day to honour those who have fought cancer, those who fight cancer, and those who have survived cancer. A day to honour all, and continue Terry’s fight against cancer,” Laurie Carriere, Georgina Terry Fox Run organizer, said.
On the day of the run, Laurie and Mike Carriere and their daughter Crystal Pangman were joined by Mayor Margaret Quirk, MP Scot Davidson, MPP Caroline Mulroney, Town staff and members of council at the Civic Centre to raise the 2021 Georgina Terry Fox flag, and to pay tribute to Terry Fox and all those who have battled cancer.
“It was a beautiful day in Georgina filled with warm sunshine, cherished memories and hope,” Carriere said.
“Terry Fox’s Marathon of Hope began on April 12, 1980 in St. Johns, Newfoundland. Terry ran a marathon a day, on one leg, that sadly ended nearly five months later in Thunder Bay, Ontario when cancer spread to his lungs.”

“Donations are so needed and truly appreciated,” Carriere said.
Carriere hopes they can surpass $50,000 raised last year.
The Terry Fox School Run will be taking place for students on September 29.
“Please support students and teachers during another challenging year as they take on the #tryliketerry challenge to raise critical funds for cancer research,” she said.
