On the 40th anniversary of the Marathon of Hope, organizers of this year’s Georgina Terry Fox Run (GTFR) hope the spirit of Terry Fox will continue, only virtually this year.
With the province now restricting outside gatherings to 25 people, Laurie Pangman-Carriere, the lead organizer of the annual run, is urging people to sign up on the GTFR’s website and run, walk, bike, and even dance on their own on Sunday, September 20.
“Covid has sadly changed the GTFR event this year that my family and I cherish so much along with so many other supporters but we can’t stop fighting cancer. Cancer doesn’t take a break and we can’t either,” she said.
“We all need to be like Terry, by registering and donating we can save lives. We can’t outrun cancer if we don’t try.”
Ms. Pangman-Carriere is urging those who want to participate to run, walk, bike in their neighbourhoods or where ever they may be, as long as COVID-19 safeguards and precautions are followed.
Besides making personal, family or group donations online, which will be gratefully accepted after the virtual run is over, she encourages residents to consider other fundraising efforts, like holding lawn sales or bottle drives.
