Ontario is reporting 2,964 new COVID-19 cases today and 25 more deaths related to the virus.
Health Minister Christine Elliott says there are 786 new infections in Toronto, 346 in Peel Region, 308 in York Region, 197 in Durham and 187 in Windsor-Essex County.
There are currently 998 hospitalizations in the province, including 329 intensive care cases, and 228 patients on ventilators.
Provincial data suggests roughly a third of Ontario’s 626 long-term care homes are dealing with outbreaks, with 19 more facilities reporting that they’ve been hit by the virus today.
The province says there’s been an average increase of 2,792 new cases per day over the past week, with Ontario setting a single-day record of 3,363 diagnoses yesterday.
Public health authorities say they’ve processed 49,803 tests since their last update, and 5.6 per cent came back positive.
