Georgina, ON – The Town of Georgina is working to reopen outdoor recreation amenities following the provincial announcement of its Roadmap to Reopen plan. The announcement noted municipalities could reopen some amenities starting Saturday, May 22 at 12:01 a.m. Town staff continue to focus on preparing waterfront parks and beaches for the Victoria Day long weekend.
Town staff are working to open amenities as quickly as possible and ask for patience as it responds to this latest change. Picnic tables, tennis courts and skate parks will be available May 22. Residents may still see some closed signs, but Town staff are working to remove them.
Seasonal preparation has not been completed on baseball diamonds and soccer fields, and nets have not been added at some basketball courts, but they can all be used starting Saturday, May 22. Team sports are still prohibited and individuals making use of these facilities will be required to maintain at least two metres of distancing, with the exception of members from the same household.
The reopening of outdoor amenities comes with restrictions, such as the need to maintain physical distancing. Residents are reminded to –
· Stay at least six feet/two metres away from people outside of your immediate household.
· Follow the Province of Ontario’s emergency orders around social gatherings.
· Stay home if not feeling well.
· Playground equipment is not sanitized. Use caution and use these outdoor recreation amenities at your own risk. Remember to wash your hands with soap for at least 20 seconds or use an alcohol-based sanitizer after use.
· Follow the mask/face covering measures set out by York Region Public Health.
Outdoor limits for social gatherings and organized public events will be expanded to five people, which will allow these amenities to be used for up to five people, including with members of different households.
