The Pefferlaw Market is in its second year and has expanded to a new location at Cedardale Church of the Nazarene, allowing more space for vendors and shoppers.

The market started in 2020 at Thomas’ Greenhouses in Pefferlaw, which was the site for the first two markets of this season, until organizers were invited to hold the market at the church with assistance from the Pefferlaw Association of Ratepayers (PAR)

According to Natasha Haesen, co-president of the Pefferlaw Market, the market was started to help get exposure to local crafters and small businesses during the pandemic.

“Although Pefferlaw may seem off the beaten track for some, for us, it is home. Like any home, the residents of Pefferlaw take pride in our little piece of heaven. We wanted to build something from our grassroots and for ourselves,” Haesen said.

A Facebook Event is posted for the market each week, which lists which vendors will attend. Hansen said this allows shoppers the chance to peruse the vendor booth photos and ask questions before the date.

Hive share is one of the regular vendors at the Pefferlaw Market. They sell honey and other products from their beehives.

“I have been at the market the last two years when it was at Thomas’ Greenhouses, and then it evolved to what it is now, and I think it’s much better. It’s a great community, and I’m thrilled to be part of it,” Christopher Campbell, founder and beekeeper of Hive share, said.

Haesen said the market averages about 100 visitors each week, and she hopes to expand their clientele throughout the season.

The Pefferlaw Market, Pefferlaw Association of Ratepayers and the Church of Cedardale strictly follow the COVID-19 guidelines put forward by public health.

They have signs about social distancing, mask-wearing and handwashing; they also require all vendors to have hand sanitizer at their booths, and have a table offering free masks.

“We recommend our market for the residents of Georgina as it is a great way to see the talent that we have right here at home,” Haesen said.

“It is also a great way for Georgina residents to familiarize themselves with the small, little community of Pefferlaw. And, as for Pefferlaw residents themselves, the market offers a great opportunity to get out and do some shopping while supporting local, all while staying a stone’s throw from home.”

The Pefferlaw Market occurs every Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Cedardale Church of the Nazarene at 471 Pefferlaw Road.
