The Cedar Hedge Concert Series brought the Virginia United Church to life month after month last year, with music lovers filling the pews to enjoy some of Canada’s finest folk musicians.
Launched by Matt Large—a bluegrass musician, music presenter, and true folk enthusiast—the series quickly became a must-attend event for fans of heartfelt, homegrown tunes.
This year, the Cedar Hedge Music Series is set to deliver nine exciting concerts, kicking off on September 21 with the multitalented Lotus Wight.
Hailing from Toronto, Sam Allison (aka Lotus Wight) brings old-time country, blues, and jazz to life with a blend of songwriting, poetry, and banjo expertise.
Not just a musician, Wight is also a true banjo historian! He made his debut in 2017 with Ode to Banjo, an album that snagged a Canadian Folk Music Award nomination for Best Instrumental Folk Album.
While he plays the banjo—America’s most iconic instrument—he also takes it up a notch by creating his own, including a homemade invention called the “Contrabass Harmoniphoneum.”
It’s sure to be a toe-tapping good time!

All concerts begin at 7 p.m. Single ticket costs $30. Series membership is $215, and half series membership $108.
