If you want a delicious hot sandwich but don’t want to break the bank, The Lunchroom at 118 High Street in Sutton should be your new go-to spot.
The Lunchroom’s menu features classic and signature sandwiches at very reasonable prices.
The Classics Menu includes a freshly sliced corned beef sandwich served on maple rye for $11.99, or you can opt for a grilled cheese on Texas toast for just $6.99.
There’s also a variety of salads, including Cesar, Greek and Garden, or you can add a can of pop and a cup of homemade soup, like Chicken Noodle, to any sandwich for just $3.50.
If you’ve got a bit more to spend, there’s a Signature Menu, which features a shaved ribeye steak sandwich ($15.99), or a homemade meatball sandwich with basil pesto, marinara sauce, and provolone cheese ($13.99).
My personal favourite is the Reuben, freshly sliced corned beef served on marble rye and topped with Swiss cheese, sauerkraut and Thousand Island dressing ($13.99).
“We’re trying to keep the price point reasonable for people and offer a way to grab a quick lunch because some people don’t have time for a sit-down lunch,” said Nick Lekatis, who opened The Lunchroom with his wife Carrie and son Matthew in February, in the previous location of the Speak Easy Sandwich Co., which closed last year.
While Lektais says Speak Easy made some great sandwiches, he acknowledges that their price point may have been too high for Sutton.
“Not everybody wants to spend $20 to $25 for lunch. So, we tried to come up with a few things to get in the $15 range. Some stuff is even cheaper than that. You can get a grilled cheese and a soup for around $11. We’re trying to offer lunch for a reasonable price and make it quick, too,” he said.
The Lekatis family is no stranger to good eats. They ran The Chicken Station in Jackson’s Point and operate Cutie Pie Baking Co., just a couple of doors up the street.
And it’s no surprise that they are also big believers in the future of High Street.
“We’re going to have a little bump in the road with the construction. But I think in the future, High Street is going to be the place to be,” Lekatis said.
The Lunchroom is open from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. However, it may expand its hours in the summer months. For updates, follow thelunchroomgeorgina on IG.
