Cards shuffle, balls roll, and pickleballs fly—the 30th year of Senior Games is in full swing until October 24.

Katherine Squires, Recreation Programmer for the Town of Georgina, noted that since the Senior Games began in 1995, more than 16,000 people have participated, an average of 600 seniors each year. She says, “This 30th anniversary is our biggest event yet, with 35 categories, including Cornhole for the first time.”

She points out that while the Town provides support, months of effort from dedicated volunteers from Club 55 make the games possible. “The games,” she adds, “are a true celebration of community spirit, skill, and active living.”

Jan Gibson and Catherine Babick are all smiles, ready to dive into the fun at this year’s Georgina Senior Games!

Nancy Reid has been a regular at the Senior Games for more than a decade. A self-described “sporty one,” she’s always ready to try something new. This year, she’s signed up for floor curling, shuffleboard, carpet bowling, and the Prediction Walk. “I love sports,” she says. “I like the competition, but what matters most is being with people—meeting new friends and catching up with old ones. Gotta keep busy!”

Jan Gibson joined Club 55 last year and with encouragement from her friend Catherine Babick plans to compete in the darts category. “I used to be pretty good,” she laughs. “Winning would be nice—who doesn’t hope for that? But really, I’m just here to just have fun.”

Catherine Babick is diving back into the Senior Games with her signature enthusiasm. This time, she’s eager to try her hand at darts and Euchre. “I used to teach art at Club 55, and always noticed how much fun everyone was having, so I decided to join in!” she says. Her first go at the games was a poker match. “I won with a little help,” she laughs, “but the second time I was out in five minutes!” Undeterred, she is excited to compete again, meet new people, and most importantly—have a blast.

No matter the score, it’s all smiles and good times at the Georgina Senior Games! There are still spots open, so if you’re ready to get in on the action, now’s your chance.
