From a food truck in the Maxi Marina Market parking lot to a modern and marvelous space down the road in less than a year, Last Rodeo BBQ is still dishing up pulled pork, brisket, sandwiches, and burgers. They’ve even added pizza to the menu.

The husband and wife team opened the doors at 28664 Hwy. 48 at the beginning of February.

Karena Yeung, co-owner, said, “It was time to get out of the cold!”

The brick-and-mortar space is rustic, roomy, and features spotless, state-of-the-art cooking facilities.

The tantalizing smell of smoked meat and barbeque sauce wafts from the kitchen, and customers can browse products from local artisans while they wait.

Co-owner and chef, Kristien Cloughley, gestures at the wide-open area in front of his custom wood counter, “We call it the dance floor! I worked with a local contractor and was able to build this place from scratch the way I wanted it.”

One wall is dedicated to rows of wood cutting and charcuterie boards made by Tony Rossi of Baldwin. Another area features colourful paintings of rock musicians by artist Samantha Black of Barrie. Barbeque sauces, jam, maple syrup, and Last Rodeo BBQ branded hoodies are also for sale.

Yeung pointed to bags of Pitmasters Choice Pellets and said, “We are keeping everything as local and Canadian as possible. We’ve even switched our BBQ pellets to a new supplier.”

Michelle Docherty of Sutton and her two-year-old son, Kellin Brewer, stopped by for lunch and ordered the Bessie Burger and the Dirty Pig pulled pork sandwich.

Docherty said, “This is our first time here and we will definitely be back! It’s nice to have something different.”

Kellin was too busy eating his burger to say much, but her mother said, “Look at his eyes light up! He is going to eat the whole thing.”

The Last Rodeo BBQ has a Facebook page where customers can learn more and see the full menu and specials.
