The Town of Georgina announced that the Georgina Farmers’ Market will open on Sunday, May 23 at 9 a.m., with strict COVID-19 protocols set in place to ensure the safety of vendors and shoppers.
“I’m happy to hear the market can open safely this year to provide residents with healthy and sustainable food options, and I’m certain the news is something many people are looking forward to,” said Mayor Margaret Quirk in a media release.
“The event organizers, volunteers, vendors and Town staff have done a tremendous job to ensure we can continue to enjoy the market and support the businesses, which is pivotal in maintaining our local economy.”
For its sixth season, the Georgina Farmers’ Market will host over 30 vendors that sell a variety of local products, such as meats, produce, baked goods, crafts, fish, pizza, and charcuterie boards.
Last year, the event was postponed and the season was shortened due to lockdown measures. However, even with the COVID-19 safety protocols in place, residents were able to enjoy the market and vendors were happy with the steady turnout.
This season, farmers’ markets selling food products are considered essential workplaces under Ontario’s Emergency Order and are permitted to operate under provincial guidelines with strict COVID-19 safety measures.
The Town said that vendors will be strategically spaced out, the amount of directional signage will be increased, and vendors have been encouraged to offer cashless payment options to reduce contact.
Residents attending the event are required to wear masks, maintain physical distancing, and follow the directional signage.
The Georgina Farmers’ Market will run every Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. until October 3, 2021, at The Link in Sutton, 20849 Dalton Rd.
