Students attending Waabgon Gamig First Nation School on Georgina Island won the Georgina Public Library’s coveted Top School Trophy for the 2021 TD Summer Reading Club.

The school achieved a participation rate of 100 per cent, which broke the Georgina Public Library’s record for the summer reading program.

“Reading over the summer months is important for helping children to maintain and grow their literary skills,” Val Stevens, Director and CEO of Georgina Public Library, said in the press release.

“We were so excited to see the community come together to support the children’s reading over the summer.”

The students received medals in recognition of the achievement at a barbeque gathering on October 7.

The Georgina Public Library runs children’s literacy programs throughout the year. You can visit your local branch for more information.
