Police say it’s the largest fentanyl drug bust ever in Georgina.

More than 1,400 grams of fentanyl and 400 grams of cocaine were seized by YRP’s #3 District Criminal Investigations Bureau following a four-month joint investigation with the OPP called Project Madruga, which saw six search warrants executed in April and May in Toronto and York Region.

Police also seized 15 firearms, including four shotguns, four rifles and seven handguns, with several sourced from the U.S.

YRP arrested six male suspects charged with a total of 53 drug and weapons-related offences.

According to Det. Sgt. Jason Marcoux, who spoke at a news conference at YRP Headquarters in Aurora on Monday morning, at least one of the suspects was known to police and had been charged with previous offences.

Marcoux says YRP were tipped off in February by a resident who led them to Dariel Hidalgo Guzman, 32, from Newmarket, who is charged with eight offences, including possession of fentanyl and cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

Other suspects charged are: Gary Laird, 34, Toronto; Renne Goomansingh, 24, Toronto; Justice Comeau, 28, Newmarket; Ayden Beauchamp, 24, Toronto; and Ali Victor, 39, Aurora.

According to police, the street value of the drugs, which also includes methamphetamines, opioid pills and cannabis, is $215,000.

Much of the seized fentanyl was in a raw form and may have been mixed with cocaine before being sold to unsuspecting users.

However, police say they have not been able to locate the lab where the fentanyl was originally manufactured.

Police say the drug ring was selling illicit drugs in Georgina, but its operations stretched from Toronto to Huntsville.

YRP asks that anyone with information about drug trafficking in Georgina should contact #3 District Criminal Investigations Bureau at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7345.
