What would summer be without The Sutton Fair & Horse Show? The 168th running kicks off August 7–10 at the Sutton Fairgrounds.

Fan favourites like the Mini Chuckwagon Races, Truck and Tractor Pull, Global Pet Foods Superdogs, Horse Pull, Baby Show, and Saturday Night Demolition Derby are back. For extra spectacular crashes, the vehicles will navigate a Figure 8 race track!

Visitors are welcome to take a selfie with “Sir Loin” a massive Holstein balloon cow who stands over 12ft tall.

The Georgina Military Museum will be displaying military vehicles and equipment. Other draws include antiques, fine arts, crafts, flower exhibits, beer garden, sheep shearing, vendors, and livestock displays.

For the younger attendees there’s the Kid’s Foam Party, Zoo to You, BenTastic’s Fantastic Magic Shows, and several musical acts. Of course, the midway will be providing the usual thrills.

A theme is chosen each year for the fair through a collaborative process by the Sutton Agricultural Society.

“This year, Sow It, Grow It, and Show It spoke to members. It represents a lot of the aspects of the Fair in terms of our Homecraft entry classes and Livestock entry classes,” said Victoria Pike, Advertising Chairperson.

“Patrons “Sow It” when they plant their vegetable and flower seeds, but the meaning is deeper in that “Sow It” also refers to setting something in motion, which applies to all of our other Fair entries. You then “Grow It,” which literally relates to vegetable, crop and flower entries, but also to other entries in developing the idea further. And then finally, “Show It” when it’s presented at the Fair.  ”

Last year’s attendance numbers were up four per cent despite bad weather, and this year promises to be even better.

Pike said, “The Sutton Fair & Horse Show would not be able to run without the numerous dedicated volunteers that put the Fair together each and every year. We would also not be in our 168th year if it were not for the numerous sponsors that help support us.”

All-Day Midway Ride passes and discounted admission passes can be purchased up till August 6 at Sutton Home Hardware and Keswick Home Hardware. It’s $46 for an All-Day Midway Ride pass and $10 for Adult admission if you purchase in advance.
