The Cedar Hedge Concert Series has one more show in its 2025 lineup – and it is a treat: internationally acclaimed guitarist Don Ross and powerhouse vocalist Julie Malia.
Ross, who was the first musician to twice win the National Fingerstyle Guitar Championship, is often described as a “guitarist who makes six strings sound like six musicians.” Renowned worldwide for his percussive, virtuosic style, he has been called “a one-man orchestra” and “the guy other guitar players follow around taking notes.”
Malia brings the perfect complement: a rich, expressive voice that moves effortlessly from soulful warmth to playful sparkle. Together, they are praised for a chemistry that feels effortless and electric.
Expect a mix of originals, reinventions, and genre-bending surprises. Ross may lean into folk, blues, or finger-style fireworks; Malia might drop a jazz-tinged vocal line. Either way, the evening promises the kind of musical storytelling that leaves audiences grinning and singing.
The Cedar Hedge Series has earned a reputation for introducing strong talent to the community, and this concert adds another standout performance to the season.
The concert takes place at Virginia United Church. Whether you’re a long-time fan or simply curious what “percussive fingerstyle” looks like in real life, this one is worth showing up for.
