Hospice Georgina launches another game of Catch the Ace

Game three of Hospice Georgina’s Catch the Ace started February 24 with a guaranteed $1,000 jackpot.

Week one of the game had Sheila Hinton win $268.00; week two’s winner will be announced March 10, and week three will be drawn on March 17.

“The draw is every Wednesday at 8 p.m. until the ace of spades is found or for up to 52 weeks,” Laurie Ann Knapp, Office Manager at Hospice Georgina, said.
Based on the card game Chase the Ace, Catch the Ace is a progressive jackpot, multiple-draw, weekly raffle, licensed through the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO).

According to the AGCO website, the person with the weekly winning ticket selects one card for the deck. If the Ace of Spades is selected, they win the progressive jackpot and a percentage of the draw’s proceeds.

If the Ace of Spades is not selected, they only get the proceeds’ percentage, and the progressive prize portion of the ticket sales is rolled over into the progressive jackpot for the next draw.

The money collected will be broken down with 50 per cent of ticket sales going towards Hospice Georgina, 20 per cent going towards the weekly winner and 30 per cent going into the progressive jackpot.

The 50 per cent of sales that go towards Hospice Georgina will be used to provide the programs they run at no charge, Ms. Knapp said.

Hospice Georgina is a non-profit charitable organization that provides non-medical support for palliative people, people with a life-threatening or life-limiting illness, their families and caregivers, and the bereaved.

“We are very appreciative of all those who supported Hospice Georgina through our first online version of Catch the Ace. We hope our supporters are enjoying the opportunity to safely continue fundraising with an added bit of fun and excitement in the mix,” Ms. Knapp said.

The first game ended with Meghan Savoie winning $52,525.50, and the second game ended with Catherine McNevan winning $12,675.00.

Tickets will be sold in bundles: three tickets for $5.00, 10 tickets for $10.00, and 100 tickets for $20.00. Tickets go on sale every Thursday at noon.
