Did you see a big cow at the Georgina Farmers’ Market at the Link on Sunday, July 12? You weren’t imagining things. Sutton Sal was building hype for the 169th running of the Sutton Fair & Horse Show.

Chris Kelezis of Dina’s Cuisine was serving wood-fired pizza that day at the market and said, “It was amazing to see a tall, furry cow circulating in the crowd, though the mascot may have scared a few of the visiting dogs.”

Georgina’s family-friendly summer tradition kicks off Aug. 6-9 at the Sutton Fairgrounds. This year there is something to sing about with a new karaoke competition for performers ages 12 and older on Sunday.

Other new features include the Canadian Raptor Conservancy, Durham Dino Parties, K-Pop Demon Hunters and the Great Canadian Lumberjacks.

Fan favourites include the Tractor Pull on Thursday night, the Demo Cross and Horse Pull on Friday, and the adrenaline-filled Demolition Derby on Saturday.

Eight-year-old Gwen Pollock is from Keswick and said, “I am looking forward to the Haunted House, the Scrambler, the dog show and the magician.”

Her six-year-old sister, Aida Pollock,  said, “I also really like the animals and the funhouse.”

Younger attendees can also enjoy the Kids’ Foam Party, Zoo to You, BenTastic’s Fantastic Magic Shows and several musical acts. Of course, the midway will be providing the usual thrills. Other draws include antiques, fine arts, crafts, flower exhibits, beer garden, sheep shearing, vendors and livestock displays.

A theme is chosen each year by the Sutton Agricultural Society and “it helps guide ideas for a lot of our homecraft exhibits. I expect to see some good ‘Blue Jeans and Country Dreams’ exhibits this year,” said Victoria Pike, advertising chairperson.

Last year’s attendance numbers were up on Thursday and Sunday, and they saw steady attendance on Friday and Saturday.

Pike said, “Thanks to everyone for supporting the fair again this year. The fair would not be possible without all the dedicated volunteers, sponsors and patrons.”

We are looking forward to seeing you in 2026!”
