The Town of Georgina is increasing “no parking” and “no stopping” fines within the Waterfront Park Buffer Zone to discourage illegal parking.
Beginning Saturday, May 22, “no parking” fines will increase from $30 to $100, and “no stopping fines” from $50 to $150.
The Waterfront Park Buffer Zone includes the shoreline of Lake Simcoe, Town roads in lakeside neighbourhoods, as well as an area along the Black River north of High Street in Sutton.
Only areas in the Waterfront Park Buffer Zone with existing “no parking” or “no stopping” regulations will be affected by the fine increase.
Illegal parking caused by the influx of summer day-trippers is both a nuisance and a safety issue for many residents who live on streets near beach areas, and is especially troublesome during long weekends.
“These areas become busy during the spring and summer months as residents and visitors are drawn to the lakefront. This can impact neighbourhood safety and access for emergency service vehicles,” explained Mayor Margaret Quirk in a media release.
“Once park parking lots are full, the Town is faced with parking issues on side streets surrounding our lakefront parks, prompting safety concerns for the community.”
The Town asks residents to report illegally park vehicles.
Parking complaints should be reported to the Municipal Law Enforcement Division at 905-476-4301, ext. 2279 or 2373 from Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
For after hours and weekends, call ext. 2281. You may have to leave a message, but bylaw officers will follow up.
