It was a lovely summer evening for a stroll in the gardens outside The Briars and to celebrate the importance of art, music and culture in our community.

Well attended by 150 guests in their best summer attire, the Georgina Arts Centre & Gallery’s first annual “Art in the Park” fundraising gala was held on July 27, and by all accounts, it was a great success.

Mayor Margaret Quirk, Regional Councillor Rob Grossi and Ward 1 Councillor Mike Waddington were joined by MPP Caroline Mulroney and MP Scot Davidson, along with many of the GACAG’s major donors and supporters.

Guests were greeted by the music of pianist Dee Lawrence, and harpist Britt-Lynn Winch, and were piped to dinner by Bob Sedore.

After dinner entertainment was provided by Duncan Cooke, Larry Goguen and an interpretative dance performance by Gillian Tierney with Victoria Melbourne and Ashley Philpott. The Phoenix singers wrapped things up with a lovely a cappella performance.

The highlight of the evening was the opportunity to view the works of 70 local artists on display in The Great Room, which, to the delight of many of the guests, they were able to take home as gifts.

Selected artworks from the gallery’s permanent collection were also on display.

All in all, a wonderful event that many will look forward to attending next year.
