A beloved and respected doctor will be trading her stethoscope for more time on her Zephyr farm as of Oct. 8.
Dr. Patricia Marchuk is retiring after 42 years of running a family practice in Pefferlaw, and she leaves with mixed emotions.
“I’ve seen so many changes in both medicine and in the community during my years as a physician,” said Marchuk. “It was an added blessing to have long-term relationships with so many of my patients.”
Marchuk began her practice at a time when there were no ambulances or paramedics in Pefferlaw, and she provided a full array of services and emergency care right out of her office.
“Some of my clients were World War II veterans,” said Marchuk. “There are children who have had me as their doctor for their entire lives.”

Councillor Dale Kerr Genge has been a patient of Marchuk’s for 35 years.
“The best thing about Dr. Marchuk is that she listened and always took seriously any issues I raised,” Genge said. “The only other GP I had was the doctor who delivered me. Very sorry that she is retiring.”
Jen Charles has worked as Dr. Marchuk’s office assistant for 20 years and said, “The people in this community have been great; we’ve appreciated their trust in us to handle their medical care.”
Dr. Marchuk, 72, plans to spend more time with her horses on her farm.
“This seems like a good time with the new nurse practitioner-led clinic expanding in Pefferlaw,” said Dr. Marchuk. “People have options.”
The Georgina Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic operates out of the same location as Dr. Marchuk at 319 Pefferlaw Rd. and is preparing to expand its hours and services over the coming weeks, providing additional medical services to Georgina residents.
