’Tis the season for all Georgina to show its spooky side. If you are looking for some Halloween entertainment, The Georgina Post has some suggestions for you.

Hawkins Street in Sutton is hosting their annual Halloween Haunt for Hunger & Toy Drive By, and the fun begins at 6 pm and goes till 10 pm every night until Oct. 31. Spooktacular decorations are set up all along the street, and visitors are invited to drive slowly and experience it all.

Please bring a non-perishable food item or toy to 9 Hawkins Street in the designated bin. Cash is also accepted. Beware of a few new ghoulish characters added to the display.

The Carriere family has been organizing this event for more than twenty years. Laurie, Mike and their daughter Crystal volunteer weeks of their time to provide festive fun to the community while helping scare away hunger and collect holiday toys for locals in need.

“Every year, we do our best to change the displays and add more to the events. We kindly ask for donations of any new holiday displays, animatronics, lights and are sincerely thankful for even used holiday displays,” said Laurie Pangman-Carriere. “The greatest majority of all our event expenses is out of our own piggy bank, including large hydro bills, repairs and storage… It’s truly a nightmare, but the minute you hear laughter and see the joy it all brings … it’s truly all worth it!”

Approximately 2000 or more people visit the display each year, and donations benefit the Georgina Food Pantry, local churches, Santa’s Helpers, Keswick Optimist Club, Shades of Hope Refuge and more.

Sarah Wolf lives on Hawkins Street and said, “Every year Laurie, Mike, and Crystal give our front yard a spooktacular makeover all in the spirit of scaring up donations for a fang-tastic cause to help the local community!”
