Local athletes, coaches, officials and sports builders will get the honour and recognition they deserve with the Town’s launch of the new Georgina Sports Hall of Fame in 2026.

Inductees will be showcased through an interactive display located at the Multi-Use Recreation Complex (MURC) and a complementary website, which will allow residents and visitors to explore their stories, achievements and historic milestones. A mobile unit is also being planned that will travel to other Town facilities.

“The Georgina Sports Hall of Fame will serve as a lasting tribute to the athletes and builders whose achievements have shaped our Town’s sporting identity,” said Mayor Margaret Quirk in a media release.

“The hall of fame will honour the people whose dedication to sport has built community, inspired excellence and proven the enduring power of sport to unite us all. Their legacy will live on not only in records and victories, but in the spirit of teamwork, perseverance and pride that will continue to inspire future generations.”

According to the release, individuals will be inducted into the hall of fame into two categories: athletes, who have demonstrated outstanding success in their sport, and builders, including coaches, officials, volunteers, executives, and others who have made significant contributions to sport in our community.

Teams are not inducted into the hall of fame but may be recognized annually on a Team Honour Roll. Teams will be recognized for their involvement in world/international, national or provincial championships, or are deemed worthy of recognition by Georgina Council.

The Town is currently accepting nominations for the inaugural 2026 induction year.
