On the weekend of August 15 and 16, 2026, Madeira Park once again came alive with the Portuguese Islands’ sights, sounds, and traditions.
We were blessed with beautiful weather and a wonderful turnout as families, friends, and visitors gathered to celebrate Nossa Senhora do Monte and the Madeiran Canadian community.
But the celebration does not end with the summer Feast.
On September 19, the community will once again gather at Madeira Park for the Wine Harvest Celebration, beginning at 5 p.m.
You can also arrive earlier for the Kids Fall Festival, which starts at noon and runs to 5 p.m.
For those looking to experience even more of what Georgina has to offer, start the day at The ROC at noon for the Region’s Cultural Festival. Then, when you are ready for the next stop, it is only a short 15-minute trip to Madeira Park.
In the space of an afternoon, you can go from celebrating the cultures and traditions of the wider region to experiencing a little piece of Madeira, without leaving Georgina.
The Wine Harvest is one of the most enjoyable Madeiran traditions to share with the next generation. At our small outdoor Lagar, the children take centre stage, rolling up their pant legs and squishing the grapes by foot, just as generations have done in Madeira.
For the kids, it is an unforgettable experience. For parents and grandparents, it is a chance to share a tradition from home. And for everyone watching, it is another reminder that culture survives when it is shared.
So make a day of it. Start at The ROC, enjoy the Cultural Festival, then take the short drive over to Madeira Park, and you will be ready to celebrate the harvest.
Two cultural experiences. One community. Fifteen minutes apart.
That is the Georgina we are fortunate to call home.
Madeira Park is located at 24120 Highway 48 in Sutton.
