Georgina woman tests positive as York Region sees 13 more COVID-19 infections.

A Georgina woman in her 30s has tested positive for COVID-19, according to York Region Public Health.

The York website reports the case is under-investigation. There are no details yet regarding whether the infection was travel-related or the result of local transmission.

There are now 205 positive cases in York Region as of March 29, 5:45 p.m, with 13 new infections reported, including Georgina’s first case, seven cases from Markham, and five cases from Vaughan.

There has also been a notable shift in the cause of infections. From March 15 to March 22, 60 per cent of the cases were travel-related. This past week, that number dropped to 21 per cent.

The majority of infections are now “under investigation,” which indicates a rise in local transmissions, according to public health officials.

Meanwhile, Southlake Regional Health Centre admitted another patient to its intensive care unit, as of 4 p.m. March 29.

The patient is listed as “under investigation,” awaiting test results. There are now a total of seven patients being treated in the hospital’s 15-bed ICU.
