An outbreak of COVID-19 has claimed the life of a female resident at the River Glen Nursing Home in Sutton, Ontario.
The elderly woman, in her 90s, died at the nursing home on Saturday, May 2, after developing COVID-19 symptoms on Sunday, April 26, according to Patrick Casey, director of corporate communications for York Region.
York Region Public Health said that a positive test result was reported on Monday, May 4, after her death, confirming that the cause of death was COVID-19.
The nursing home is currently trying to contain a COVID-19 outbreak that was first reported on April 27.
The York Region website reports 24 residents – including the deceased – and 12 staff of RGH have tested positive for the virus, as of 5 p.m., May 5.
“We offer our sincere condolences to her family and loved ones,” said Mr. Casey.
“Saddened to share a resident of Georgina has passed away from COVID-19. On behalf of all members of Council I offer our deepest sympathies to the family and loved ones on behalf of the citizens of Georgina,” said Mayor Margaret Quirk in a Facebook post on May 4.
The Post has asked Karen Ryan, the administrator at RGH, to provide a statement regarding the death. However, as of posting, one has not been forthcoming.
