Cedarvale Lodge is in lockdown again after two residents tested positive for COVID-19, according to York Region Public Health.
“We can confirm an outbreak was declared at Cedarvale Lodge on November 9 after two residents tested positive for COVID-19,” said Nadia Daniell-Colarossi, a spokesperson for Sienna Senior Living, the home’s owner, in an email to The Post.
“One resident tested positive in hospital, and as a result we took steps to test all residents and team members. Testing is complete and we continue to work closely with Public Health, following their direction to prevent further spread of the virus.”
Cedarvale Lodge Retirement and Care Community, located at 121 Morton Avenue in Keswick, is a multi-use facility that includes long-term care, assisted living and independent living sections.
The outbreak is the home’s retirement community, and not in long-term care.
While Cedarvale Lodge, unlike River Glen Haven in Sutton, managed to avoid a COVID-19 outbreak in the spring, one staff member in long-term care tested positive on October 8.
At that time, there was no spread of the virus and public health declared the outbreak over on Oct 26.
According to Ms. Daniell-Colarossi, Cedarvale Lodge has taken significant actions to stop the spread of the virus, including enhancing IPAC protocols, having residents remain in their rooms, and cohorting team members so they provide care to a specific group of residents only.
“As we continue to monitor the situation closely, our highest priority is the health and safety of our residents and team members at Cedarvale Lodge,” she said.
Ms. Daniell-Colarossi added that the Sienna Senior Living has “taken a number of critical steps to improve our operations and ensure our residents and team members are as safe and healthy as possible” in preparation for a second wave.
These actions, according to Ms. Danielle-Colarossi, include increasing its personal protective equipment (PPE) supply, reinforcing infection prevention and control practices, and strengthening communications with residents and families.
Meanwhile, public health is reporting 13 active cases in Georgina, with 8 new positive cases for the week of Nov 1 to Nov 7. The positivity rate – the percentage of tests that yield a positive result – is more than 1 per cent, based on 648 tests for the same period.
Public health reports Cedarvale Lodge is the only active institutional outbreak in Georgina, which includes long-term care homes, community care settings and emergency housing.
There are also two schools under surveillance, with Deer Park PS, reporting one student infection, and Keswick PS, reporting one staff infection.
