After cancelling their annual live TV auction last year due to COVID-19 restrictions, The Georgina Cares Fund is bringing the auction back.
The auction will air on Rogers tv on November 28 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
“We are thrilled to be back; we are very happy to be able to help kids be kids, and the support from the community has been outstanding,” Holly Doyle, Program Administrator for The Georgina Cares Fund, said.
The Georgina Cares Fund, a non-profit organization, provides funding for local children, up the age of 15, to take part in extracurricular activities, like sports and after-school clubs.
It also administers the Compassion Fund to help families that have experienced an unforeseen or catastrophic occurrence, like a house fire or medical emergency.
Last year The Georgina Cares Fund was unable to hold the auction due to the COVID restrictions, so they ran a special on Rogers tv instead.
This year, Doyle said they’d taken steps to ensure the safety of the volunteers, the board members and the staff at Rogers tv
“It is a condensed auction due to some COVID restrictions. We had to scale back on time; we had to scale back on volunteers to make sure everybody is safe and to make sure that we didn’t overwhelm the number of people in the small space,” she said.
Doyle said the response from the community has been impressive, with many local businesses donating to the auction.
“All of the donations were made by businesses in the community, and all the funds go back into the community. Our motto is ‘helping kids be kids,’ and that is the important part of all this,” she said.
“There are a lot of amazing items available, so I’m very excited about it.”
This year’s auction will include donations from local businesses like Sweet Pea Accessories, Prestige Jewellery, I Do Weddings, Paint Source Plus, Mason Place, and more.
