Most parents feel a pang of guilt when their kids spend countless hours on a digital device.

They remember what it was like to be a kid before the digital revolution – when they rode their bikes until sunset, played endless road hockey games, and yes, went fishing.

That’s what made the Pefferlaw Take a Kid Fishing event so special for more than 300 parents and kids who descended on the Peninsula Resort, located on a grassy peninsula between Lake Simcoe and the Pefferlaw river, on a sunny Saturday in July.

For many kids, this was their first-time fishing.  So there was much to learn — how to bait a hook, cast, and snag a fish.

They also learned about conservation, and the importance of catch and release.

But perhaps the best lesson was how much fun it was to connect with nature, and reconnect with their parents.

All the credit goes to the Pefferlaw Angler’s club, and their dozen or so sponsors, who provided each kid with a rod and reel, fishing tackle and bait, a free hot dog lunch, a popsicle, and a prize at the end of the day.

But the biggest prize, was the experience itself.

Here are a few pics from the day.
