Are you bored of your regular exercise routine? Savanna Quiring, from Pefferlaw, is shaking things up at the Udora Hall. Four days a week, all summer long, she’s offering a variety of fun fitness classes.
All sessions begin at 7 p.m. and range from Tabata kickboxing, Pilates, circuit training, yoga, and cardio.
Quiring, a certified Canadian fitness professional, said, “Being healthy is expensive; having a gym membership, eating well, taking vitamins, seeing healthcare professionals. I’m happy to give back to the community and contribute to healthy lifestyles. Being active shouldn’t be a fad. It’s not about looking a certain way or reaching a certain weight. We all need to be active every single day for our entire lives.”
Tabata kickboxing is her favourite class. It’s a high-intensity workout that combines kickboxing moves for 20 seconds followed by 10 seconds of rest. This is repeated for a total of eight rounds.
Quiring is providing the classes on a donation basis to help cover the cost of the Udora Hall rental and purchasing equipment. The suggested donation could be from $5 to $10 per visit.
Most weeks, the classes will be Monday to Thursday. Quiring said, “I’ve learned it’s not about getting to a certain weight. You have to be healthy every day.”

This reporter headed down to the hall on Monday, June 30, to try out a circuit class with 17 other local participants. Quiring had 18 exercise stations set up including weight stations, an agility ladder, hula hoop (my favourite), juggling balls, big box step-ups, and core sliders.
The workout was challenging, but could be easily modified for any fitness level. It was a friendly and fun way to get off the couch.
Melanie Clark, from Sunderland, was one of the attendees. “I am trying to stay active and most of my activities stop in the summer,” she said. “Savanna offers a lot of different things.”
Amy Madhaven from Uxbridge was also working out. “I saw these classes on Facebook and it’s only ten minutes away for me. It’s nice to have something so close,” she said.
The circuit training had everyone raising their heart rates while having fun at the same time. Quiring’s classes are constantly evolving, and she is open to suggestions if attendees have ideas.
