Day jobs, play dates, house cleaning, working out, school, sports practices, and shuttling kids to and from all their appointments…
It’s easy to forget to take care of yourself with increasingly busy schedules.
Women who are at least 25 years old and eligible for screening should be screened regularly for cancer-causing HPV strains.
The Georgina Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic (GNPLC) is hoping to make it easier for local residents to get caught up with their screening.
“People are often balancing work, children, caregiving and many other responsibilities, so preventive care can easily fall to the bottom of the list. By offering a pop-up clinic, we are trying to make cervical screening easier and more accessible,” said John Holbrook, clinic director at the GNPLC.
In partnership with the Northern York South Simcoe Ontario Health Team (NYSS OHT), the clinic will host two cervical screening pop-up clinics this fall at its Sutton location.
The clinics will be held Monday, Oct. 5, and Monday, Oct. 19, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 21071 Dalton Road.
Appointments are available to eligible women, Two-Spirit people, transmasculine people and nonbinary people with a cervix, including those who do not have a family doctor. No referral is required.
“Cervical screening is not something to avoid because you feel well. Screening is intended to identify HPV and cervical changes before they develop into cancer. The appointment is brief, and those few minutes could make an important difference to your health,” said Holbrook.
The clinic is offering a one-time HPV screening test to people who are due or overdue for screening. Appointments take approximately 20 minutes.
