York Region Transit is making some changes to their schedules effective March 23.
“With the closure of schools, businesses and public spaces, in addition to more York Region residents working from home, York Region Transit (YRT) is temporarily adjusting service levels starting Monday, March 23 to meet current customer demands,” Tamara Ostrowski, Corporate Communications for the Regional Municipality of York, said in a media release.
York Region Transit are monitoring the situation and adjusting their schedules as they see fit. They are making changes to support the need for social distancing to protect passengers and operators.
“In an effort to help slow the spread of COVID-19 and in continued support of the health and safety of staff and travellers, passengers must board the bus at the middle or rear doors. This applies to all YRT and Viva routes. Travellers are asked to pay fares before boarding, where possible, or pay when you depart the bus at the station or terminal. Passengers with mobility issues requiring assistance are still able to board using the front doors,” the media release said.
The York Region Transit staff are taking additional measures to disinfect the busses, terminals and rapidway stations, with more focus on poles, seats and handles.
The bus routes in Georgina have been impacted.
