The Town of Georgina’s recent workplace outbreak at the Civic Centre, the result of two employees testing positive for COVID-19, was declared over on June 26, according to York Region Public Health.

Public Health officials said 14 days had passed, with no new cases being reported, since the last COVID-19 positive employee attended work while infectious.

“The COVID-19 outbreak at this location is declared over and normal activities can resume,” said Public Health in an email to the Town.

The outbreak was originally reported on June 20, after a second employee tested positive for COVID-19 — two employees must test positive before a workplace cluster or outbreak is declared by Public Health.

The Civic Centre was closed on June 19 for deep cleaning and sanitization, after the first employee tested positive, but staff were permitted back in the building on June 22.

According to Public Health, all of the employees’ workplace contacts were identified and tested negative.

Meanwhile, Southlake is reporting there are no active resident cases at River Glen Haven, after taking over management of the nursing home on May 25, following a Ministry of Long-Term Care mandatory management order.

However, the LTC home remains in outbreak as some staff cases who tested positive are yet to be resolved.

“Public Health considers both staff and residents as being part of an outbreak. We are looking forward to once again welcoming visitors, once Public Health declares the outbreak over,” said Southlake in a recent update to family members.

The York dashboard is reporting 153 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Town of Georgina. There are currently 9 active cases, down from 11 last week.

According to Public Health, the last new case was reported on June 29.
