The 2020 Georgina Studio Tour, a perennial favourite with artists and art lovers, will take place on September 26 and 27.

The preparations started shortly after the 2019 Studio Tour but came to a halt when the pandemic struck. The new management had many difficult decisions to make but it all worked out, and 23 artists are excited to share their works with our ever supportive community.

One of the participants is the Sutton artist, Brett Hill. He hopes for a great turnout, and admits that his small business has suffered a lot, since many of the retail outlets which were carrying his products were closed down.

“I decided to take some courses on how to market and sell online. I tried to figure out new sales channels, I updated my portfolio and my website,” Mr. Hill said.

“I’ve also used the time to write new cards and develop new products. I made a line of Essential Worker buttons and quarantine-themed buttons that have been really popular.”

Sherry Crawford, the Indigenous artist, also doubled her efforts in online marketing, but she admits she much prefers to exhibit her artworks in a physical space where she has a chance to chat with visitors and share her stories.

“I am excited to have my works exhibited at the Georgina Arts Centre and Gallery during the Studio Tour. My show was scheduled for June 2020, but was cancelled due to the pandemic.”

Apart from Sherry Crawford’s works you will also see works by two other Indigenous artists, Lauri Hoeg and Jacob Charles.

The Georgina Arts Centre and Gallery is participating in the Studio Tour for the first time. For this special occasion visitors will have a chance to get a glimpse of several new additions to the Gallery’s Permanent Collection by various Inuit and West Coast artists.

To keep the Studio Tour safe for visitors and artists, COVID-19 protocols will be in place:

  • Wear a mask
  • Sanitize your hands
  • Practice physical distancing
