The annual Purple Turtle Art Festival, celebrating its 20th year, is returning to The Briars Resort & Spa this summer.

“We have over 35 vendors from all over Ontario featuring paintings, sculptures, stained glass, pottery, garden art, textiles, photography, and more,” Penny Gyokeres, Purple Turtle Art Festival coordinator, said.

The festival is free to attend and will take place on Saturday, July 9, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, July 10, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The festival will be located at The Briars Resort & Spa’s meadow, 991 Lake Dr. E., in Jackson’s Point, with access through the old Red Barn Theatre entrance.

Local artists from Jackson’s Point, Keswick and Sutton will be featured at the festival, along with many other artists from all over Ontario.

“It’s a wonderful way for fine artists in Georgina to sell their art,” Gyokeres said.

“We are the largest fine arts festival in Georgina. And we feature local Ontario artists and those from Georgina specifically because there is so much talent out there.”

While local artists may be able to sell their art at makers’ markets and farmers’ markets, fine art is not the focus of those events, according to Gyokeres.

The Purple Turtle Art Festival is a way for them to show and sell their wares in an event solely focused on fine art, she said.

Holding the festival at the Briars Resort & Spa also allows visitors from outside the region to visit the festival, as it is just a short walk away from the resort.

The festival will be wheelchair accessible and has a wheelchair-accessible port-a-potty, so all can attend.

“Come on out and support local artists; we hope to see everyone there,” Gyokeres said.
