Whether you’re drawn to the sounds of simple shakers or the riffs of electric guitars the music showcase at ClearWater Farm had it all!

“The idea for a Music Showcase was put forward by the Connors Brothers,” says Sheri Bryant, Events and Education Program Manager. “They did their Family Album launch at the farm last November, and loved the acoustics they got in the barn. They felt that the venue was a great place for music.”

She adds, “Moreover, The Believer’s Bend Garden, developed by Lucy Boguski and designed by Mark Setter last year, is intended for music. We were excited to put it to use and collaborate with local musicians and see what we could create together.”

The Connors Brothers, excited to collaborate again with Clearwater Farm to perform, say: “It is an amazing setting that breeds creativity!”

The showcase, held on July 27, made for a full day of music by homegrown musicians and songwriters. They were performing in every corner, culminating with an evening concert in the barn.

There was also time for learning, reflection, and spiritual drumming led by Jacob Charles, a traditional Anishinaabe knowledge sharer and cultural guide from the Chippewas of Georgina Island.

He gave us insight into how music has always been a part of people’s lives and influences us all deeply. He took us on a journey, an experience that went from simple shakers to powerful drumming.

“I was particularly captivated by the drumming,” said Kat, from Willow Tree Yoga and Wellness. “But the whole experience was ecstatic! From yoga on the barn patio overlooking the lake, to pita and coffee from local vendors, to connecting with a bunch of very nice people. It is an amazing place to be!”

Graham Gerald, visiting from San Diego, couldn’t agree more. Sipping a local Lake Simcoe lager at the beer garden, he says, “I love the ambiance here and the friendly people. The live music adds to the charm and enhances the experience.”

It’s not usual to find a music showcase at a farm, but there’s a special harmony between growing veggies and making melodies—after all, both nurture life and creativity in their own way!
