On August 15, Georgina’s farms invited visitors to stop, look around, and perhaps leave with a little more produce than they had planned.
The annual Field to Table farm tour returned for a day of exploration, celebrating Georgina’s more than 200 years of agricultural heritage.
Since 2018, the event has offered a chance to meet local growers, discover where their food comes from and experience farms that aren’t always open to the public.
This year there were 6 stops, including a newcomer, Harford’s Greenhouses.
Passionate gardener Merlee Harford has been growing flowers here for 20 years, and joining the tour was a natural fit. “I saw an opportunity to introduce people to our farm,” she says. “It’s going wonderfully!”
Surrounded by colourful flowers, including her favourite zinnias, Merlee was joined by her daughter, granddaughter and other family members, who all pitched in to welcome visitors. It was a great way for the Harfords to make their Field to Table debut.

Across the road is Cloverhill Flowers Farm, one of the tour’s original participants. Mother-and-daughter team Debbie and Amanda Gordon grow more than 50 varieties of seasonal cutting flowers.
Visitors could wander through the gardens, make a bouquet at the Bloom Bar, enjoy music, and get a free photo at the photobooth.
Posing for a photo was Adriana, who moved to Georgina last fall. For her, the tour was a chance to discover her new community and its local farms. “I’m figuring out what the farms have to offer. I like honey and fresh vegetables, so I’m planning for the months ahead — what to buy and where to get it. I appreciate that Field to Table gives us the opportunity to visit local growers. I really enjoy this tour.”
ClearWater Farm boasted several events. Emily Betts (operations support) said, “We have 12 vendors inside the barn and 3 outside, along with a face painter, and story time offered by the Georgina Public Library. There are also guided tours, educational displays, including one from Rescue Lake Simcoe, live music and, of course, the farm stand. Something for everyone.”
Field to Table is about much more than visiting farms. You can sample local treats, meet growers and vendors, enjoy music and discover artists — proof that farming and creativity make a pretty good team.
For anyone still wondering what “farm to table” really means, perhaps three-year-old Elise Harford had the best answer. While helping her mom and grandma stamp tour passports, she was asked what she likes about farming.
“Fresh veggies. And sweet potato is my favourite!” she declared.
Hard to argue with that. Next year, come hungry — and do like Elise: save room for the fresh veggies and the sweet stuff!
