Torres Media radio stations, including Keswick’s The New K Country 93.7FM, has dedicated $150,000 worth of air time to support shopping local.
“With more people moving into the area, we want to make sure that new arrivals to Georgina understand that it is important to support your local businesses. It’s the local businesses that support the local sport teams, they support local charities. Local businesses are important to communities,” Ed Torres, President of Torres Media, said.
Torres said The New K Country launched in October 2020, and it has been hard for them to get involved in the community the way local radio stations usually would, due to the pandemic.
He said this is a way for them to show their support, and that they don’t want to lose the momentum the Town of Georgina and the Chamber of Commerce has going with their shop local campaigns.
“Local matters,. When you choose to support your local businesses, you’re ensuring that your money stays in your community. Not only are you helping your favourite business weather uncertain times, you’re also helping yourself,” the ad currently playing on The New K Country says.
“You’re making sure that your favourite breakfast spot, book store or clothing shop stays open. Shopping locally is good for you, and everybody else too. A dollar spent in York Region, stays in York Region. A dollar spent elsewhere, never comes back.”
Torres Media also has radio stations in Uxbridge, Ottawa, and Quebec, and is running the initiative in all markets throughout the rest of the year.
Torres said they will also be looking at other initiatives to help local businesses survive and thrive.
